Sketching My Way

Most wire weaving tutorials assume you can draw. Well, I can't, so I came up with an idea that suited me because preparation is crucial, especially when you're working with sea glass.
One: I make several outlines of the pendant on a sheet of paper. I use them to sketch the different stages of my work.
Two: I decide how many wire pieces I will be using, draw them as lines and number them.
Three: I write down the pieces to be woven, e.g. 1 & 2, 3 & 4, etc. and where they go - left, right, in front or at the back, etc.
Four: I decide on the type of weave and mark it schematically on the numbered lines (I've seen this in other tutorials).
Five: which wire pieces will be used for the bail.
Six: I usually define the connection points during the working process. I start from the low end and work on the frame, trying it on the sea glass now and then until I fix it.
Seven: improvise, often to a completely different end.

If you've read so far, you deserve some pictures :)

You can see the outlines of the pendant on the sketch and what looks like illegible schemes :) I had made the decorative element on top from wire remnants and it's a great touch. I tied it to the woven wire pieces at the bottom.

No idea about this one but I will have to find a way to attach the butterfly, because I made it of very soft wire and it can not be worn separately.

I have an idea but no sketches. Sometimes it works :)

  1. I cant weave wire, but I have an idea for your butterfly. Make a circle frame and add 8 lengths of wire (maybe 2-3" each to it). Put the frame at the back of the stone and spread the wire round like a prong setting. the top two can become the base for the bail and the rest can be connected to the wings of the butterfly or simply spiraled for decoration. now you can do your wire weaving thingy if you want on this base :) Does it make any sense?

  2. This is an interesting idea, Divya! I'll have to see how it works :)

  3. Oh, holy moley! These are amazing, lady! I can't draw either and I just don't have the patience for meticulous skills like these. I'll leave the amazing wire work to you! You are rocking it!!

    1. Thank you, Hope! I have to admit it was not as easy but I guess my desire to learn wire weaving was stronger than my lack of drawing skills :)
